preventative care

KEEP YOUR TEETH HEALTHY

Maintaining great oral health is a lifelong job, and that’s why attending regular appointments with your chosen dentist is so essential for all ages. At Texas Texas Tiny Teeth Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, our doctors and the rest of our team are proud to offer quality preventive care for our special patients. We’ll help your son or daughter understand the importance of caring for their teeth and gums and provide services that offer extra support and protection towards this goal.

Check-ups & Cleanings

Routine checkups and cleanings should start from a very young age. During these first visits, we will carefully count your child’s existing teeth, provide a gentle cleaning, and perform an examination so that our doctors can ensure there are no developmental problems that need attention.

As your son or daughter grows, our approach grows with them. We will begin to provide other preventive services that can help strengthen their smiles against the ongoing threat of decay. We will treat your child until they reach the age of 18, and by then, we hope to have instilled good oral health habits and techniques that will last their lifetime!

Space Maintainers

With so many tooth fairy visits, we find ourselves recommending a lot of space maintainers! If your son or daughter ends up losing a “baby” tooth earlier than normal, a space maintainer will keep the space open for the permanent tooth that’s developing underneath. Otherwise, the surrounding teeth may begin to shift in an effort to fill that space, which could require more involved orthodontic treatment later on in life.

Night Guards for Bruxism

Does your child regularly complain about painful headaches? Do their teeth seem strangely damaged or worn? Bruxism (also known as teeth grinding) could be the culprit, which is likely to occur while your child is sleeping and unaware.

Thankfully, there’s an easy solution available at Texas Tiny Teeth! Our doctors will design a personalized night guard that can be worn comfortably through the night, protecting their precious smile from dangerous grinding.

Sports Guards

Our doctors love hearing about your son’s or daughter’s latest sporting event! And we want to make sure that their growing smiles are well-protected from harm that can be caused by other players or hard objects/surfaces. Instead of running to the nearest athletics store for a “one-size-fits-all” oral appliance, parents are encouraged to visit us for a custom-made model. These ‘sports guards’ are designed to the shape of your child’s mouth, making them much more comfortable, safe, and lasting.

Oral Screenings

Oral cancer is, thankfully, rare in children, but cases can and do happen sometimes. That’s why our team regularly performs oral cancer screenings during pediatric checkups. Our goal is to identify cancerous cells as early on to make recovery that much simpler and more successful in the long run. Common, concerning symptoms that parents should also be aware of include the following:

  • Strange red or white spots on the oral tissues
  • Thickened areas of skin, lumps, or crusts within the mouth
  • Excessive numbness or pain inside the mouth or on the lips
  • Oral sores that are healing too slowly or constantly bleeding

Quality Hygiene Products

We always emphasize the importance of a high-quality oral hygiene routine at home in addition to regular professional appointments. If needed, we’re happy to recommend excellent, kid-friendly toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouthwashes, and other oral hygiene products that can help your child’s smile stay squeaky clean. Our team can also teach you about proper brushing and flossing, at any age, with easy-to-follow guidance.
